2 weeks ago, the Women's Rugby Team returned to campus to start their 2023 15's season. They were full of excitement and energy, ready to be back with the team and back on the pitch. This season will bring about lots of change, after saying goodbye to Coach Chapman and our 7 beloved teammates from the class of 2023.
They started off the week with a meeting and an introduction to Kyle Corbett, their new coach! Coach Corbett is from Syracuse, NY and began his rugby career at SUNY Brockport, his alma mater. He has experience in helping coach a variety of teams in the upstate NY area, and is excited to be the head coach for both the Men's and Women's teams. In the mornings, the team had recovery and self-care from 8am to 11am. In the afternoons, they were on the pitch, reaccustoming themselves to the sport by starting with conditioning and passing- focused practices to tackling and scrum work later in the week. Team meetings happened throughout the week, where they went over the rules of the game, plays, and field tactics. Some evenings, the team had dinner together, enjoying pizza and wing's from the local pizzeria and a pasta night.Â
Recruitment has been the team's focus the week following preseason. With the Class of 2027 moving in last Sunday, the team participated in their yearly tradition of "Dorm Storm", where they helped the new students move in and passed out fliers throughout the freshmen dorms. "Dorm Storm", along with the annual Colgate Club Sports Fair were great successes, and the team is looking forward to start Rookie Camp this week and meet the future members of the team. The team will also be preparing to host Hamilton College and the Uticuse Women's Club team in scrimmages on Saturday. The players are excited to start this year's 15s season, and even more excited to introduce the class of 2027 to the game of rugby.Â
